but my Words shall not pass away.

As followers of Jesus Christ, the aim of LUMC is threefold, to Walk; to Worship; to Witness.

  • IVEP – International Volunteer Exchange Program
  • MDS – Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS is no longer an MCC Project)
  • SALT – Serving & Learning Together

YAMS

  • Young Adult Mission & Service
  • Introduced in 2002 to promote and support young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 interested in mission work.

  • Offering funding for up to 1/3 of total trip costs, YAMS applicants are encouraged to cover 1/3 of costs themselves, and fundraise the remaining 1/3.

Mission Events

  • Mission Weekend
  • Community Carnival (June 9, 2012)

  • Mission Sunday (June 10, 2012)

  • Christmas Gift Giving & Visitations (Annual Event)
  • Gifts are collected from the congregation.

  • Learning Tours

  • Our church has participated in a number of Learning Tours to Macau, Guatemala and the Philippines over the past number of years.  These learning tours have led to many participants re-examining their life situations, and even took our own Matt Tiessen back to the Philippines for a full year of missions there.

  • Our church is looking into another Learning Tour to the Philippines – stay tuned for details!

  • Mennonite World Conference

  • Mennonite World Conference is hosted in different locations around the globe every 7 years.  In 2009, LUMC sponsored 2 foreign delegates who could otherwise not afford to go.  In addition to these delegates, we also sent 2 youth and 1 sponsor to represent our church.

Mission Around the World

  • Our church has partnered with the Peace Builders Community in the Philippines.  The ministry of Peace Builders Community, Inc. (PBCI) is a practical articulation of Peace Theology—that is, advancing the Gospel of Shalom. Shalom is understood as harmony with the Creator (spiritual transformation), harmony with our Being (psycho-social transformation), harmony with Others (socio-political transformation), and harmony with the Creation (economic-ecological transformation).  Our member Matt Tiessen recently returned from a year serving with Peace Builders Community.
