Our church has
participated in a number of Learning Tours to
Macau, Guatemala and the Philippines over the
past number of years. These learning tours have
led to many participants re-examining their life
situations, and even took our own Matt Tiessen
back to the Philippines for a full year of
missions there.
-
Our church is
looking into another Learning Tour to the
Philippines – stay tuned for details!
-
Mennonite World
Conference is hosted in different locations
around the globe every 7 years. In 2009, LUMC
sponsored 2 foreign delegates who could
otherwise not afford to go. In addition to
these delegates, we also sent 2 youth and 1
sponsor to represent our church.
Mission Around the World
-
Our church has
partnered with the Peace Builders Community in
the Philippines. The ministry of Peace Builders
Community, Inc. (PBCI) is a practical
articulation of Peace Theology—that is,
advancing the Gospel of Shalom. Shalom is
understood as harmony with the Creator
(spiritual transformation), harmony with our
Being (psycho-social transformation), harmony
with Others (socio-political transformation),
and harmony with the Creation
(economic-ecological transformation). Our
member Matt Tiessen recently returned from a
year serving with Peace Builders Community.
